Do you really need to be there, for roll call every day?
Work or school?
Is the award, the accomplishment, the dedication…a worthy pursuit?
THIS teacher says without hesitation…nope.
I’m certain my perspective was cemented with every shared birthday my daddy and I (and mama too) spent together regardless of the day of the week.
Perhaps I remember how nice it was to have a break now and then when I really didn’t study for a test and wanted to take it the next day…
I might have done well to accept a few hard knocks earlier on, but I figured it all out eventually.
I am certain the mental health days along the way were good for this girl’s wayward growth and development.
If your child attends a school where the focus of learning is based largely on the interests of your child, and they can’t wait to race out the door to get in there and get started, then, by all means let them go.
But, if instead you support hours of problems solved and worksheets completed, and stories read with questions answered not connected to anyone in your home…
Well, it might be time to sprinkle in some well executed adventures.
I was telling the truth every time I told a student that when you are not here, our learning is different; the ideas you would have brought to the table were missing…
I also really appreciate all that comes with a child who comes in the door fresh from wonderful time spent with friends and family and stories to tell.
I think it isn’t much different at work…
Being a trooper (insert martyr) works for some
The rest might enjoy some well executed days of play and perhaps return a bit more productive, energized, happy.
I think I’ll pass on the perfect attendance award…
You?
